Cognitive Coaching Thoughts: Sustaining the Journey

From the CC website: www.cognitivecoaching.com

A new essay every Wednesday......cool

As you consider yourself in your workplace, what are your greatest strengths? Are you more likely to demonstrate those strengths in some settings more than others? Consider a person you work closely with. What might s/he say about your strengths? What might be an area that is less of a strength for you? What might be some actions you could take to increase trust through that facet? How do these facets of trust explain some of the issues of trust in your organization? How might you share this research with others in a way that would be productive and useful to your colleagues?

       Habits of Mind

What are the student behaviors that interfere with learning?

How do we want students to be?

We began our work with Art Costa examing these questions. We opened our minds to learning about the 16 types of intelligent behavior know as the Habits of Mind.  These are the broad, enduring and essential lifespan learnings that will guide us in knowing what to do when we don't know what to do.  This work helps establish a framework and common language for facilitating thinking skills in the classroom and in the organization itself.

PERSISTING

When we approach problems with one strategy and it doesn't work, it is easy to give up.  Teaching persistence is about teaching how to use multiple stratgies. If a repertoire of approaches is in place, we are better able to handle ambiguity. We know how to begin solving a problem, what steps we will use and monitor progress.

What are some of the strategies that help you persist?
